The context
Bloodsugar is an award winning typeface designed specifically to raise awareness of diabetes and hopefully find a cure. Every time someone purchased Type One or Type Two in a design project, 100% of the profits would go directly to diabetes charities and causes.
Inspired by one Frame’s copywriters diabetes diagnosis, we wanted to create a way of raising awareness and funds for diabetes research. We wanted it to be different to anything we’d ever seen before.
The approach
With this typeface, I chose to use the imagery and iconography of blood and glucose as inspiration. Additionally, glyphs and creative type options were added to make the fonts as flexible and as appealing to designers as possible. Frame did all the work for free and had committed to keep it that way.
The project was awarded the Chairman's Award at the Scottish Creative Awards 2016, as well as receiving two other awards in the categories of Typography and Most Creative Use of media.
